JOSÉ CABALLERO: THE CIRCLE OF LIFE

Feature Documentary / Art & Cultural Biography

Synopsis

José Caballero: The Circle of Life is a feature-length documentary tracing the extraordinary journey of one of the twentieth century’s most significant Spanish painters. A central figure of the Generation of '27, Caballero was a close collaborator of Federico García Lorca in La Barraca and forged lifelong creative bonds with literary giants like Rafael Alberti and Pablo Neruda. Spanning an impressive legacy of 2,500 drawings and 150 paintings, the film explores his artistic evolution from Surrealism to abstraction. At its heart, the narrative intertwines two compelling threads: his profound personal and artistic partnership with María Fernanda Thomás de Carranza, and his remarkable, little-known ties to Bulgaria leading up to a landmark exhibition at Sofia's National Gallery. Drawing on rare archival material and exclusive insights from cultural figures such as Luis García Montero and Laura García Lorca, the documentary offers a captivating dialogue between art, memory, and history.
